Coverall Types explained
-
Type 6 — limited liquid splash (EN 13034).
-
Type 5 — dry particles and dust (EN ISO 13982-1).
-
Type 4 — spray-tight, for liquid sprays.
-
Type 3 — liquid-tight against pressurised jets.
The lower the Type number, the higher the liquid protection. Many disposable coveralls are rated Type 5/6 — dust plus light splash.
Dust, asbestos and spray painting (Type 5/6)
Options include the Tyvek 500 Xpert, DuPont ProShield 20, Disposable Coverall Type 5/6 AS1001, Maxisafe Chemguard SMS, Microporous Coverall DPECB and AlphaTec 2000 Standard. Several of these list asbestos handling as an application. For asbestos work, follow the asbestos codes of practice and your asbestos removal control plan, and pair your coveralls with a suitable respirator.
Sprays and liquids (Type 4 and Type 3)
For spray painting, pesticide spraying and wet cleaning, choose a Type 4 coverall such as the Disposable Coverall Type 4-5-6 ASDC456 or Maxisafe Aquaguard. For pressurised water-based liquids, the Tyvek 800 J is a Type 3 garment, and the Maxisafe Chembarrier is rated Type 3/4/5/6.
Chemical-resistant suits
DuPont Tychem garments add a chemical barrier for concentrated chemicals, spill clean-up and emergency response: the Tychem 2000, Tychem 6000F and Tychem F gown. Chemical protection depends on the specific chemical, so check the listing or the manufacturer’s permeation data for yours.
