Hi-Vis Workwear Sydney – Shirts, Vests, Jackets & Pants Guide

Buying hi-vis in Sydney comes down to three questions: what class your site requires, how hot it will be, and whether you want to try sizes on first. We stock hi-vis shirts, polos, pants, jackets and vests from Bisley, Hard Yakka, DNC, KingGee, Syzmik, Portwest and JB’s Wear, with collection from our warehouse in Auburn by arrangement — central to Parramatta, the Hills and the south-west — and fast dispatch Australia-wide.

Day, Night or Day/Night: which class do you need?

Australian hi-vis garments are classed under AS/NZS 4602.1:

  • Class D (Day) — fluorescent orange or yellow fabric for daylight. No reflective tape, so not suitable after dark.
  • Class N (Night) — retroreflective tape that lights up in headlights. Navy or khaki work pants with reflective tape are usually Class N.
  • Class D/N (Day/Night) — fluorescent fabric plus retroreflective tape, for work at dawn, dusk, night or near traffic.

A common combination on Sydney sites is a Day/Night shirt or vest over taped Class N pants. Your site rules decide the class and sometimes the colour, so check before you order. Our guide to Class D, N and D/N explains it in more detail.

Hi-vis shirts for Sydney summers

Long sleeves in light, vented cotton are the best defence against Sydney’s UV and heat. These are our most popular styles:

Hi-vis polos

Taped work pants

Taped pants add night visibility from the waist down. These carry a Night (N) class per the maker:

Jackets for winter and wet weather

Vests

A vest is the quickest way to make visitors, drivers and supervisors visible. The Syzmik Unisex Hi Vis Zip Basic Vest ZV999 is Class D/N per Syzmik in sizes XS–7XL, and the DNC Hi Vis Day/Night Safety Vest H-Pattern Taped 3804 suits traffic and site work. For more, see our hi-vis vest guide.

Women’s hi-vis

Women’s cuts fit better through the shoulders and hips, so they’re safer as well as more comfortable. Popular styles include the Bisley Women’s Taped Biomotion Cool Lightweight Hi Vis Shirt BL6016T (Class D/N per Bisley) and the Syzmik Women's Rugged Cooling HI Vis Taped Long Sleeve Shirt ZW720 (Day/Night with mesh venting). Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between Class D and Class D/N hi-vis?

Class D (Day) garments use fluorescent fabric only and are for daylight. Class D/N (Day/Night) garments add retroreflective tape, so they’re visible in headlights at dawn, dusk and night. Both are classes under AS/NZS 4602.1.

Why are taped navy pants rated Class N?

Navy or khaki fabric isn’t fluorescent, so the garment can’t meet the Day requirement. Its reflective tape provides night visibility, which makes it Class N. Pair taped pants with a Day/Night top for full coverage.

Can I try hi-vis on before I buy in Sydney?

Yes, by arrangement: call 0457 545 175 first, then visit our Auburn NSW warehouse, 7:30am–3:30pm Monday to Friday, where you can check sizes at the counter.
