Men's Work Boots

The boot is the one piece of PPE a tradesperson wears for every hour of every shift, and the one most often chosen on habit rather than on the job. Everything on this page is certified to AS/NZS 2210.3 — 200 joules of toe impact protection and 15 kN of compression — so the question is not whether a boot is compliant, but which closure, toe cap and sole suit the work you actually do.

Start With the Closure

  • Lace-up — the most adjustable, and the best ankle support. Standard on uneven ground, scaffolding and civil work.
  • Elastic sided — slip on, no laces to catch or come undone. Ideal where boots come off and on through the day.
  • Zip side — lace-up support with slip-on convenience: the zip does the speed, the laces do the fit.

Then the Toe Cap

  • Steel cap — a thinner cap, so more room in the toe box, and generally the lower cost. Conducts heat and cold, and triggers metal detectors.
  • Composite toe — non-metallic and lighter, for detector-screened sites, cold storage and anyone wanting the weight off.

Then the Sole

Slip resistance is graded SRA, SRB and SRC, and they are not interchangeable: SRA is tested on wet ceramic, SRB on oily steel, and SRC means a sole passed both. Our guide to SRC ratings on safety boot soles explains which to look for on the surface you work on.

Getting the Fit Right

Measure late in the day and fit with the socks you actually work in. If you have flat feet, wide feet or persistent foot pain, choosing safety boots for difficult feet covers what to change, and for a broader look at what holds up in Sydney conditions, see our safety boots buyer's guide.
