Mining boot checklist
- Toe cap: 200J steel or composite (composite where boots go through metal detection)
- Metatarsal guard where the matrix requires it — internal (Argyle Met) or strap-on
- Penetration-resistant midsole for rock, rebar and drill steel

Frequently Asked Questions
What does “metguard” mean?
A metatarsal guard covers the top of the foot between the toe cap and the ankle, where a steel toe gives no protection. Internal guards are built into the boot (Steel Blue Argyle Met); external polycarbonate guards strap over the laces of a standard boot.
Are these boots certified for underground mines?
They are certified to AS/NZS 2210.3. Anything a mine requires on top of that — metguard, penetration-resistant midsole, gumboots for wet areas — comes from the site’s own PPE matrix, so match the boot to the matrix rather than the other way round.
Do I need anti-static boots?
Anti-static outsoles dissipate static through the sole, which most sites specify for processing plants and anywhere flammable dust or gas may be present. The Steel Blue, uvex and Mongrel boots listed here have anti-static properties according to their manufacturers.
