Hand Protection – Gloves for Every Job & Hazard

Hands are one of the most commonly injured parts of the body on Australian worksites — and picking the wrong glove for the hazard is often worse than picking none, since it creates false confidence. The Australian standard for protective gloves is AS/NZS 2161: mechanical risks (cut, abrasion, puncture) are covered under 2161.3, chemical resistance under 2161.10, heat under 2161.4, and cold under 2161.5. Check each listing for the ratings that glove carries, and match them to your hazard before you order. Note that cut resistance is labelled two different ways in the Australian market — older Level 1–5 ratings and newer Class A–F ratings both appear on gloves sold here, so check the listing for which scale applies.

Find the Right Glove for Your Job

  • Cut-Resistant Gloves — for sharp materials, sheet metal and bladed tools. Levels 1–5 (older scale) and Class A–F (newer scale) both appear; check the listing for which it uses.
  • Chemical-Resistant Gloves — nitrile, neoprene and PVC options rated under AS/NZS 2161.10 for solvents, acids and cleaning chemicals.
  • Disposable & Nitrile Gloves — powder-free nitrile in black and blue, sized XS–XXL, for mechanical, medical, food handling and general-purpose use.
  • Leather & Riggers Gloves — genuine leather work and rigging gloves for construction, rigging and general trade grip and abrasion protection.
  • Synthetic & Cotton/Polycotton Gloves — breathable, lower-cost options for general-purpose and light-duty tasks.
  • PVC & Rubber Gloves — wet-work and light chemical handling.
  • Heat-Resistant Gloves — for welding, foundry and hot-work tasks, rated under AS/NZS 2161.4.
  • Freezer & Cold-Storage Gloves — insulated protection for cold-room and freezer work, rated under AS/NZS 2161.5.
  • Glove Clips & Accessories — belt clips, dispensers and mounts for keeping gloves accessible and hygienic on-site, and for site-wide dispensing setups.

Choosing by Industry

  • Construction & Trade — leather riggers gloves for grip and abrasion resistance.
  • Mechanical Work — nitrile and mechanic-style synthetic gloves resist oils and grease.
  • Food Handling — nitrile and vinyl disposable gloves for hygiene compliance.
  • Chemical Handling — chemical-resistant gloves matched to AS/NZS 2161.10 codes for your specific hazard.
  • Cold Storage & Freezer Work — insulated freezer gloves rated for sustained cold exposure.

Frequently Asked Questions

Both are cut-resistance ratings under the same underlying AS/NZS 2161.3 standard, just from two different test methods. The older scale rates gloves Level 1 (lowest) to Level 5 (highest). The newer ISO 13997 test rates them Class A to F based on the force (in Newtons) needed to cut through the material. A Class E or F glove is roughly equivalent to old Level 5.

Nitrile offers the best puncture and chemical resistance and doesn't trigger latex allergies. Latex offers excellent dexterity and grip but isn't suitable for latex-sensitive users. Vinyl is the lowest-cost option, best suited to short, low-risk tasks rather than chemical or medical use.

Look for freezer gloves rated under AS/NZS 2161.5 for cold protection — insulated linings with a grip-suited outer material for handling stock in sub-zero conditions.
